i have a problem millie is 2yrs old and ive groomed her every day, i leave the brush out on side butno sooner than i pick it up she runs off, even thoughi groom sometimes twice aday shestill hates it, millie has a very thick coat that matts easy so its something i need to be on top with, she loves to have a bath even keeps crying at the bath for one but cant stand the brushing after even loves the hair dryer got 15 different types and styles of brushbut she still plays up when it comes to grooming, even the groomers i take her to have commented on how good she is till theybrush her, i tend to slicker brush then after use an uncoat brush to cut time downso shes notstressing so much, has anyone got any advice of what i can do to helpovercome her stress. you can cut her nails she'll lie down for you to do that. i have to carry her round groomers because she hates it even taken her to different groomers with no joy.yet mollie is so different she will bring you the brush to groom her she loves to be pampered. our groomer wants to take mollie to grooming shows because she isthat good, ive done mollie first to show millie there is nothingwrong with being groomed, you have to watch millie with the brushes because she will either hide them or have a go at chewing them up.
That's interesting- do you know if she'd had any bad experiences with grooming in the past:aww:?

I gather you are an experienced dog owner, so I assume you would have already tried the 'a brush, a treat' approach. Lulu runs away when she sees me with the ear wash solution and ear wipes:S:, and she hates having a bath and a blow dry!!! But she's kind of resigned to it now, she knows she must face her terrible fate no matter what:-((. Interestingly, she adores brushing and combing.

I'm sure there will be people here who can provide some prblem solving solutions.

Andrea & Lulu
Buster runs away when i get out my grooming box, he doesnt really like it, although he sits lovely whilst i am doing it. But if he had a choice he would hide away.
You say you use a slicker, this could be your problem they do tend to pull and scratch, try swapping to a pin brush, and comb. She probably wont like these either, but it will be kinder on her.
Dont give up, she needs to be brushed dailey so thats how it shall be, a bit like a child that doesnt like her hair brushing.
Good luck
Have you tried to spray a detangler on her fur because bichons need this, especially this time of year because the humidity of central heating makes the fur go more corse causing it to knot and matt easily. Central heating tends to take all the moisture out of the fur. I think it is because the brush pulls on her fur that she doesn't like it. I agree with Carol.
Most problems happen when the coat is brushed dry, always spray it first and it not only calms the dog down but also soothes any area that may otherwise get tugged at.Whenever I had to calm down birds that is what we do a warm spray of water feels good. When doing this though always talk in a soft voice to the animal so that they dont feel its some weird form of punishment.
Playtime makes a real mess of tangles when added to snow and wetwhen you have more than one. Adding the detangler spray (warmed) helps alot this time of year; along with trimming a little shorter. Works with my five!
I keep my bichon quite short too as her coat is tight curls and matts up so quickly, the yorkie and the maltie I have longer I find these easier to groom but the Maltese is only 1yr so may be his coat will become more difficult to groom when he gets older, I don't know as he is my first Maltese,I do find he loses a lot more hair than the bichon I always thought Maltese didn't moult but I find his hair everywhere and my friends Maltese is the same its usually after combing.
ive had millie coat cut short, ivealways have treats on the ready for grooming, got every detangling spray on the market from dogs to kids. i find some spraysjust make her scratch and leave stains on the coat, i always brush gently with slicker on top coat then use the under coat brush she hates the comb, im so naught though because she hates to be groomed if i find a matt which is normally on feet or behide ear i tend to cut in to them than use the dematting combsthen gently use my fingers to part before getting a comb on it, the groomer has told me to say she dont like being brushed her coat is any good condition.i just dont like stressing my babies as they mean the world to me,

Awe, precious pics! Thanks for sharing. It's a good thing my Mattie turned out not to be pregnant; I'd have some serious difficulty parting with such beautiful babies.
