:(Blitzy bit the judge on the nose and made her bleed, he was fine then i put him on the table, he coward away from her, so she bent down to him ans said softly its ok, he wriggled away, she and i went to catch him to stop hime coming off the table, he snapped out at her.
I was so upset, although she was fine about the whole thing i felt awful.
Could it be the case, that because he is teething, he could have been in some pain tonight, because he has never ever snapped.
:-((:-((Hope this isnt a set back for him he was doing so well.
Aww you must be feeling really awful but he musthave been spooked by something!Don't beat yourself up too much about this You know his temperament better than anyone. Thinking of you X X
Oh Carol, I can imagine how you must be feeling.
I've been to ringcraft tonight also and Macey wouldn't walk, wouldn't stand etc etc.. they just have bad days.
Keep your chin up Mrs....!!!
Carol, you must have felt absolutely dreadful, i know i would have done.Did she actually touch Blitzy? Maybe he was being protective of you? I know Jasmine went for a couple of people when i was carrying her in the sling when she was a puppy and i was absolutely mortified.
I am sure things will improve soon. Thinking of you. xxx
Aww Honey *hugs* we didn't go tonight (long story) but I can imagine how you are feeling. Hopefully it was because (or partly due) to his teething. I think some of it is just developmental as these litters all seem to be a little shall we say 'fiestier' if you know what I mean. Rosie will on occasion give a growl if anyone comes up to me suddenly. It's getting less now as I remind her of the pack order LOL but I think they do just have this in their character and hopefully he will grow out of it with your help. XX
Aww Carol, put it down to one of those days. It will soon be forgotten and Blitzy will do very well and has a very promising future. The judge will be more wary in the future. Anything can spook dogs, it just take a little thing. My laid back Toby can also get spooked.
Naw this won't hinder Blitzy, a gorgeous dog like that is born to be showed and do well, so don't u think other wise. Lift your head up and on to the next challenge. Hugs to you. xxx
Thanks everyone, i think this has set back my confidance a little also... I did get him back on the table after a 5 min cool down, and although he was shying away he did stand, differant judge though.
I am crapping for next week now. Excuse my french
Ladies do you forget the post about FEAR stages, your dogs are simplty at that age, encourage lots of play and dont worry too much . The issues are that you cannot allow YOUR FEAR to be transmitted to the dog after a bite, be bold, confident and more importantly be the BOSS.
Some litters havenot been well adjusted so they display signs of fear and immaturity, this is normal for those type dogs.
A feraful dog bites, its all they know how at such a tender age.
If you feel this is becoming a habit start using some valerian for a few weeks until this period is over.
Thanks Karen. I did think i may use Valerian next week. He isnt snapping at anyone else so hopefully it was a one off. What product valerian product do you reccomend?
I was very shocked last night, just at the thought. I am calm now and will take control.
Sorry to sound a bit thick but can anyone explain what valerian is??:X:
Its a natural herb that keeps them calm
buy some from H and B
just a few drops is fine , dont wanna sedate just take control xx
Now you tell me about it!!
xxx
Carol, it must have come as a real shock to you, Blitzy was probably shocked as well. Hopefully this was just a one off. That is why you are taking him to these classes, so he will get used to being judged. I am sure he will be fine and soon be in the showring winning competitions.
I'm sure this was a one off. Teething is bound to make him feel a bit cranky and off colour. A couple of drops of valerian and he'll be like a little hippy next week!
I'm convinced that he'll be showing the judges lots of love at Crufts next year!!
i hope so.
Its definatly spooked him, as you all know i take him to work with me.... he scooted and ran away from everyone, went to H&B tonight will try him with the valerian tomorrow.
Thanks all will keep you updated of his progress.
Libs I have told you all about valerian in lots n lots of posts lol
well Blitzy did better tonight, he went running in all confidant tail up an all. I took plenty of treats with me tonight, and constanly fed him, just to let him know he was in a happy place.
He was a bit scared on the the table, and backed away from the judge, but after a little coaxing took food from him, and let him touch.
The judge he bit last week wasnt there tonight.
I gave him 1ml of valerian before we set off, dont really know if it worked as he was still a litlle scared, but i will carry on with it.
That is great Carol. He just has to build up his confidence now xx
Thats great news Carol. Well done Blitzy. xxxx
